Finally a Houseguest in my New Apartment!!

My cousin Amy just booked a flight to visit me for 2 whole weeks. I feel like I haven't seen her in ages...Probably over 2 years ago...Has it really been that long?!? Now I just have to wait 6 months for her to get here!

Here are a few pics from the summer of 2006 in New York City.

Welcoming the 44th President

Sadly, I have to admit, this is the first time I've actually paid attention to the whole election process from beginning to end. Yes, I had watched some of the speeches - but would quickly change the channel to find something more interesting. This time around was a little different. Maybe because I'm older, maybe because I wanted to feel more knowledgeable about the subject but mostly because I knew it was going to be such a major event in history. Obama is such an intelligent man who has such a way with words. If anyone can convince all of us to come together as one group, fighting for the same goals as we become stronger, smarter and more motivated, he can.

Here are a few quotes from today's inauguration speech:

"Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America."

"To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history, but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist."

"What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility -- a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character than giving our all to a difficult task."

"... let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations."

My Apartment

I've been trying to update my bedroom for a while now. I usually get bored with bedroom every year or so...and its not like I just want to update a few pillows - I want a brand new look. I bought my favorite rug ever from Pottery Barn. An orange and cream floral rug and started from there...

Thanks to my dad's Christmas present I have a new Comforter that actually fits my bed! I feel like a big girl with Shams - I've never found them necessary before but it does make the bed look more put together.

I think my only thing left is new curtains...I love my windows and I dont really have neighboors right outside so I can pretty much leave them open all day long - but I think it just needs something else.

Lands End

Thanks to Zoe, I found a great new place for hiking...Land's End. It's right along the coast and has beautiful views of the bridge and bay. For most of the hike you are walking right along the cliffs. There is even a spot where you can see some remains of a few shipwrecks from the 20's and 30's. We didn't get that far but maybe next time.

It was such a great day - a hike, lunch in the park and then our neighboors had a Pajama Party that night...We didn't take too many pictures but here's one....I need cuter P.J'S!!

Happy Birthday Keri!!!

Keri and I met in 10th grade and she's been one of my best friends ever since. Through out High School and College we were basically inseperable! We've shared so many memories and good times - I don't think I could tell a story from that time period that doesn't include her.

I won't go into all of our little inside jokes or anything...Really you wouldn't get them anyway. Keri, you are always able to see the good in people, makes friends in just about any situation and wears her heart on your sleeve..literally. I admire all these things about you!

I'm so mad I can't find any older pictures on this computer!
Wish I was there to help you celebrate your day!!
Love you!!

Anatomy Update

So I had my first Anatomy class yesterday...Nothing too in depth but I did find out I wont have to dissect anything except sheep and some organs...Not too bad, I guess. The teacher's will be doing all the cadaver dissecting and the students just watch.

I'm planning on getting my hair cut and found this really good make-over tool on instyle.com. I can play around with cut and color. What do you think??

Weekend Adventures

I still can't get over that it's January and it was about 70 degrees in the city. My roomate Julia was watching her brother's dog, Scotch, on Saturday so we decided to take him for a walk around the city.
Scotch wasn't allowed at the Farmer's Market so we had to carry him around in my tote bag - he loved it for all of 10 minutes.

Scotch eating some of my Carnita's

In all the years I've visited California I've never been to Point Reyes (well at least from what I can recall). Since it was another gorgous day Julia and I drove up and took a little hike to the water.

I just loved this picture....

It's Back to School Time Again!

So after months of thinking about it, then months of talking about it I'm finally doing it! I'm taking an Anatomy class, starting this Monday. I'm actually really excited, but I'm not going to lie...I'm also a little nervous. Dissecting cadavers!?!? I can barely look at an open wound with getting grossed out! I'll let you know how it goes!

New Year, New Blog

It's been just over a year since I moved out to San Francisco. In that year, I feel like my friends and family back home have missed out on so many things that I've been doing. Since they are not able to be with me everyday I've decided to create a blog to keep them up to date with my life.

Tis the season for resolutions - so one of mine is to try to keep up with this for more then a week!

Happy New Year,

Katie
