Some More to Check Off

Along with the theme of checking things off the SF List - I went to the De Young museum on Tuesday to see the Yves Saint Laurent and the Andy Warhol exhibit. I've been talking about seeing the YSL exhibit since it opened in November - it only took me 5 months to get there. Andy Warhol opened last month.

The Andy Warhol's exhibit was huge. It was a comprehensive collection of his artwork including album covers, silk screen prints, films and photography. Personally, I liked being able to see the progression of his artwork through out the years and how he intertwined art and music as one. A few of my fav's:

The YSL exhibit was a bit smaller but just as amazing. It included run-way designs from the 60's to today. It was really interesting to see the designs of the past and how much fashion trends rotate through the years. Granted most run-way fashion isn't made for everyday wear, so its pretty much a given if some of the designs were completely out there..Totally original, yes...elaborate designs, yes...appropriate for real life..not so much. I can also say that the jewelry was amazing!

Wedding Dresses!

Checking things off the San Francisco List

I'm usually a little late to see all the movies nominated for the all the award shows, so this year is no different. I saw The Reader, with Kate Winslet (which she deserved to win) the day the Academy Awards aired, and just saw Milk yesterday. Sean Penn was absolutely amazing and I'm not usually a Sean Penn fan. We saw it at Kabuki Theater which is part of Sundance Cinemas. Along with new movies, Independent films are shown all year long. They have an over 21 cinema where they serve drinks and food that you can have during the movie...I'll have to go back to enjoy it!

I finally ate at Pizzeria Delfina - They have a restaurant in the Mission and just opened one a few blocks from my Apartment. It's been hard finding a pizzeria that can really compare to NY pizza - I've had a few here that comes close. I wouldn't quite say this NY pizza, but it was unbelievable. I'm a big crust fan and the crust here was a perfect mix of crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. Who ever comes to visit is going to have to take a trip there!
Another thing I've been dying to do is get ice cream from Bi-Rite Creamery in the Mission...I love going to home-made icecream places and this is one of the best. They only had about 10 flavors but each of them were so good. I tried Salted Carmel, Lemon Pistachio and ended up getting a scoop of Malted w/ Vanilla peanut brittle and chocolate and a scoop of Cinamon carmel. I would have tried every flavor but they gave you taste testers with real spoons and was kinda embarrassed to keep putting the dirty spoons in the empty cup!

Thank goodness I'm walking the Lion Street Steps tomorrow!

Luck of the Irish (or non-Irish)

I just booked a last minute trip back home for St. Patty's Day. I'm absolutely so excited! Even though I'm not Irish I blend in perfectly. I was supposed to fly home last year for it and ended up canceling my trip a few days before because of horrible rain storms. Nothings stopping me this year! Although, I did look at Weather.com - 50% chance of snow. Just my luck!

Can't wait to see everyone!!

As you can tell, I haven't been all that on top of keeping up with this blog. In case anyone cares, its still raining here. Thankfully, we are supposed to get sun this weekend. Well at least according to Weather.com, but they are known to be perpetual liars. My ever so handy rain boots will have to go back into the closet :(

Class is going pretty well - It seems like we just have test after test (I have another one this Thursday and Friday). We are starting to look at cadavers on Thursday - Ill let you know if I survive!

It's Raining, It's Pouring...

Seriously, it hasn't stopped raining in like days...and its not a normal steady rain. It will rain for like 30 seconds then completely stop and then start up again in a minute. At least it gives me a chance to wear my cute rainboots!!! I felt like a little kid who wanted to step in puddles.

Here they are:

My Artistic Side

I haven't been working too much lately on painting - I really want to get back into it...Here are a few or my most recent drawings that I did at CCA:

The one below is supposed to show motion. So you can see the person peeling the banana from the top and her hand moving down.

And here are some old ones...

Superbowl

It's kind of an odd thing to remind me of home, but Superbowl always seems to do it. I don't completely know whats going on during the game but I love being in a crowded sports bar with all the fans screaming with excitement. I guess I have Sports Page to thank for that...

Here are a few pics from the summer of 2006 in New York City.

Welcoming the 44th President

Sadly, I have to admit, this is the first time I've actually paid attention to the whole election process from beginning to end. Yes, I had watched some of the speeches - but would quickly change the channel to find something more interesting. This time around was a little different. Maybe because I'm older, maybe because I wanted to feel more knowledgeable about the subject but mostly because I knew it was going to be such a major event in history. Obama is such an intelligent man who has such a way with words. If anyone can convince all of us to come together as one group, fighting for the same goals as we become stronger, smarter and more motivated, he can.

Here are a few quotes from today's inauguration speech:

"Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America."

"To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history, but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist."

"What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility -- a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character than giving our all to a difficult task."

"... let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations."

My Apartment

I've been trying to update my bedroom for a while now. I usually get bored with bedroom every year or so...and its not like I just want to update a few pillows - I want a brand new look. I bought my favorite rug ever from Pottery Barn. An orange and cream floral rug and started from there...

Thanks to my dad's Christmas present I have a new Comforter that actually fits my bed! I feel like a big girl with Shams - I've never found them necessary before but it does make the bed look more put together.

I think my only thing left is new curtains...I love my windows and I dont really have neighboors right outside so I can pretty much leave them open all day long - but I think it just needs something else.

Lands End

Thanks to Zoe, I found a great new place for hiking...Land's End. It's right along the coast and has beautiful views of the bridge and bay. For most of the hike you are walking right along the cliffs. There is even a spot where you can see some remains of a few shipwrecks from the 20's and 30's. We didn't get that far but maybe next time.

It was such a great day - a hike, lunch in the park and then our neighboors had a Pajama Party that night...We didn't take too many pictures but here's one....I need cuter P.J'S!!

Happy Birthday Keri!!!

Keri and I met in 10th grade and she's been one of my best friends ever since. Through out High School and College we were basically inseperable! We've shared so many memories and good times - I don't think I could tell a story from that time period that doesn't include her.

I won't go into all of our little inside jokes or anything...Really you wouldn't get them anyway. Keri, you are always able to see the good in people, makes friends in just about any situation and wears her heart on your sleeve..literally. I admire all these things about you!

I'm so mad I can't find any older pictures on this computer!
Wish I was there to help you celebrate your day!!
Love you!!

Anatomy Update

So I had my first Anatomy class yesterday...Nothing too in depth but I did find out I wont have to dissect anything except sheep and some organs...Not too bad, I guess. The teacher's will be doing all the cadaver dissecting and the students just watch.

I'm planning on getting my hair cut and found this really good make-over tool on instyle.com. I can play around with cut and color. What do you think??
